Inverted nipples may cause an emotional distress in some women. Inverted nipples may be congenital or occur following pregnancy.
A number of successful techniques have been described to repair inverted nipples. All techniques carry a risk of sensory changes or inability to breast feed.
We perform correction of inverted nipples through a small incision at the base of the nipple. A constricting band is released. The nipple is then maintained in traction for several weeks using a suture taped to the breast.
Most patients are pleased with the results of inverted nipple correction. Rare patients require a touch-up procedure to improve nipple projection.
