Why does facial aging occur ?
As we age, our skin and deeper soft tissues weaken. In addition, gravity pulls the skin of the face and neck down resulting in skin stretching. Thus, we gradually develops jowls, redundant/hanging neck, and heavy skin folds from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (called nasolabial folds). Wrinkles also develop in the face and neck areas during this aging process. The result is an aged and tired appearance of the face. In some people, extra fat may accumulate in the face and neck adding to the heavy and saggy appearance of the face and neck.
How can the appearance of the aged face be improved?
A face lift and neck lift work well for facial rejuvenation.
A face lift pulls the skin of the face up and back and the excess of the skin is removed. Similarly, a neck lift pulls the skin of the neck up and back, and the excess of the skin is removed. You can simulate the effect of the face and neck lift yourself in front of the mirror. Simply, pull your face and neck skin up and back and notice the immediate improvement.
During the face lift and neck lift in addition to tightening of the skin, we also tighten the deeper located soft tissues of the face and neck (called SMAS and platysma). In addition, we perform face and neck liposuction to remove excess fat in the face and neck when indicated. The choice of techniques will be discussed with you in detail during your appointment. Your goals, preference and facial/neck anatomy will be considered in planning your facial rejuvenation.
