Popularity of Plastic Surgery Procedures

Popularity of Plastic Surgery Procedures

There have been some surprising statistics in the past year regarding plastic surgery. Among Latinos in the United States, plastic surgery rates have been increasing. On the other hand, plastic surgery rates among Asian Americans have been declining. This is a reversal of previous findings. Hispanics underwent an estimated 1.5 million procedures last year, up 12 percent from 2008. Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeons were interviewed regarding this trend, and they are not sure of the reason for the increase in procedures for this group. However, they report that the most popular procedures for Latinos are breast augmentations, liposuction and nose jobs. These statistics were compiled through a survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The organization also reported a decrease in Asian American plastic surgery procedures. The number of procedures has decreased 17 percent since 2008. Some surgeons say that it is because Asian American patients, as a whole, are very cautious during the worst of the recession. Three years ago, Asian American patients were turning to plastic surgery at a faster pace than any other group according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Their most popular procedures were nose jobs, eyelid surgery, and breast augmentations. In addition, African Americans reportedly underwent 5 percent more plastic surgeries between 2008 and 2009. Their most popular surgical procedures are liposuction, nose jobs, and breast reductions.

These findings conclude that African Americans and Hispanics have continued the trend of increases in plastic surgery, while Asian Americans have reversed the trend with a decrease in the procedures. It will be very interesting to see what the trends are like as the United States begins to emerge from the recession of the last few years. The trends could completely change as the unemployment rate decreases and people begin to have more money to spend.

It is also interesting to note that minorities are concerned with maintaining their ethnic identity. Many minorities do not want to look more Caucasian. Instead, they want to focus on enhancing their ethnic identity without losing important facial features which exhibit their racial character. When visiting a nose surgeon Los Angeles minorities have reported that they would not like to shape their nose to look more Caucasian, but instead to create a more balanced facial appearance. In general, breast augmentations are the most popular procedure in all regions of the United States except the Northeast, where nose jobs are the most popular. In the case of revision rhinoplasty Los Angeles as well as the American Northeast reported many surgeries. In addition, when it comes to breast augmentation Beverly Hills and other western cities, as well as the southern states report high numbers. However, it is important to be wary of possible inaccuracies. For example, the level of accuracy depends on whether the board-certified doctors who respond to the survey are representative of all American doctors performing cosmetic procedures.
