Weight loss and healthier eating seem to be on the minds of nearly everyone in 2014, and if you are determined to stick to your New Year’s resolution we encourage you to work hard everyday towards your goal. However, successful weight loss is more than a resolution, for some people it is a committed lifestyle. There are still very many who feel that no matter what they do their figure cannot fully achieve what they are aiming for. If you have put the hard work in and are still unsatisfied with your midsection, then a tummy tuck may be the procedure that fine-tunes your New Year’s resolution.
There are many factors leading up to a person’s dissatisfaction with their abdominal section. The effects of dramatic weight loss, pregnancy, genetics and even aging can leave the stomach looking worn out and separate the abdominal muscles. Exercise and diet are a great to slim down, but the muscles need to be repaired to get rid of the distorted appearance. Most patients considering tummy tuck at this time of year want to get the best results that complement their weight loss achievements, a tummy tuck can restore the body by:
- Redefining body contour
- Eliminating excess and sagging skin
- Reducing fatty areas that exercise cannot remove
- Repairing and tightening abdominal muscles
A weight loss resolution is not an easy feat to accomplish for most people, but those who are successful have turned to tummy tuck and achieved a high rate of sustained weight loss. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, overweight or obese patients who underwent tummy tuck reported long-term weight loss was sustained in 70 percent of the patients studied. Most patients declared that the reason for their successful long-term weight loss was due to the increase of satiety after surgery.
This study reveals that people who were once overweight have the ability to reshape their body without having to worry about putting the weight back. As long as they continue to follow a healthy lifestyle of eating right and exercising, long-term weight loss is sustained well after tummy tuck.
To get a better understanding of how to accomplish the best look for your body, schedule a consultation with Dr. Grigoryants in Los Angeles. Enhancing your New Year’s resolution results with a tummy tuck is the perfect solution to give you the tighter and slimmer abdominal section you deserve.

The holiday season is upon us and the meal that we feared the most has come and we find ourselves dreading the damage that we are most likely to cause at the dinner table, but this Thanksgiving give yourself something to celebrate. The average American Thanksgiving meal consists 3,000 calories. That is in just one meal! According to the Calorie Control Council, the average weight gained on the holidays is 1 to 3 pounds. It may not seem like much, but after an invasive tummy tuck procedure it may disrupt your weight loss plan.
Here are some tips to help plan a healthy Turkey Day, to maintain that smooth and slim midsection.
Plan to Eat Beforehand
Most of us succum to spontaneous eating habits around the holidays, but that should not be a factor after abdominoplasty. We are adapting to a healthier lifestyle, which means having a well-balanced meal with minimal fatty foods and sugars daily. Instead of packing on the fat from Thanksgiving buffets, eat and fill your cravings at home. This way your stomach is full and you avoid making unhealthy choices of building more unwanted fat cells.
Take a Bite of Flavor
Mindfully eating the flavors you crave most on the holidays is easier said than done, but keeping to your daily intake of food is still important. Instead of filling up your plate by the mouthful, take a fork and acquire only a bite of the foods you enjoy most. Sugars and starches tend to cling on to us longer, so avoiding such foods when possible is recommended.
Earn Your Meal
Kick your physical activity up a notch and avoid the dangers of holiday weight. Our bodies can burn up to 100 calories per mile when running or walking, so know the facts about the calories on your plate, before stuffing your body. The average dishes served on Thanksgiving are followed with the distances of exercise to burn off the calories:
- Three turkey slices – 1.5 miles
- Half a cup of sweet potatoes – 1.3 miles
- One cup of mashed potatoes, added with gravy – 2.9 miles
- One slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream – 4.8 miles
- One cup of eggnog – 3.4 miles
- One glass of wine, 4 ounces – 0.9 miles
Add Your Own Dish
The holidays are a time of celebration, but you do not need to eat everything that is in front of you, especially when it affects your weight management. Make your own contribution to the holiday dinner and bring along your own healthy dish, which will allow you to get your fill while avoiding the fatty and unhealthy portions of processed foods.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, tummy tucks help improve weight loss in patients as it increases satiety, the feeling of being full after eating. Most overweight women who undergo abdominoplasty report that they achieve continued weight loss when they follow their healthy diet, all because they feel full throughout the day. The fat cells removed, reduce the patients’ need to feed in order to feel full, and during the holidays it will be a great contribution to avoid the calorie fillers.
Get to Bed On Time
Naturally, we feel the need to stay up well into the night since we do not have to go to work or school the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas, however research shows that weight loss can be disrupted if we do not follow a regular sleep schedule. A study from Brigham Young University reported that women who slept and woke up at regular hours daily had lower body fat than those who did not.
There are many advantages to maintaining your diet during the holidays. Your abdominal section will remain tighter and slimmer, your clothes will fit better, and you will feel happier about your body contour for the new year. Sticking to a structured holiday eating plan will help maintain results after tummy tuck. Abstaining from processed an unnatural foods will ensure that unwanted fat cells do not return. Add some of your own holiday flavor with your own healthy dish to achieve your filling this Thanksgiving.

With all the talk about weight these days it’s no wonder that both men and women are looking down and trying to figure out how to fight the battle of the bulge. You would be hard pressed to find someone that is NOT concerned about their bodies in today’s society. They continuously promise themselves that they are going to lose the excessive body fat by eating right and getting in shape. Spending time at the gym every month and eating smaller meals throughout the day are all great for everyone’s health overall, and you will definitely see results when you look in the mirror, but you might also still see the stubborn stomach fat that just won’t budge or the excess skin where the fat used to be. The pace at which a man or woman loses weight often makes a snail look fast. Fortunately, people struggling with excess abdominal body fat and loose skin can turn to tummy tuck as the solution to get the beautiful body they have been working so hard for.
Tummy tuck, medically termed abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from a man or woman’s midsection. A protruding abdomen stretches the abdominal wall and over time the skin sags and abdominal definition is hidden. Dr. Vladimir Grigoryants evaluates his patients during consultation and offers his years of training and experience to help you get the results you want.
During the procedure, a well hidden incision will be made to access the underlying abdominal structures. Dr. Grigoryants elevates and pulls the skin down to create a tight, flat contour. Excess skin is removed and the abdominal muscles and fascia are tightened.
Why Is It Smarter to Get a Tummy Tuck?
Men and women everywhere resort to extreme diet plans and exercise videos to help trim their bodies, but often times the results they seek simply can’t be accomplished by diet and exercise due to their genetic limitations. Unfortunately many people end up becoming frustrated after months and years of working out and dieting that don’t yield the results they want. This often leads to people “giving up” and “letting go of themselves” simply out of frustration.
Instead of eliminating food or eating unordinary meals that do not provide enough nourishment, people can opt for abdominoplasty for a slimmer and toned abdomen. Several studies have shown that a tummy tuck can really increase the quality of life of the patient. An improvement in mood and self confidence following the procedure leads to a boost in desire to maintain the new body they see in the mirror everyday, leading to a happier, healthier life.
Why Do People Turn to Tummy Tucks?
There are multiple reasons for men and women to go under the knife and achieve what they have been working for. Common reasons for people to get a tummy tuck include:
- Loose skin does not have the ability to shrink with diet and exercise
- Postpartum women want to get their slim shape back
- People feel self-conscious about their excessive flab in the abdomen
- Improve quality of life
- Boost self-confidence and image with a flatter stomach
Will Pregnancy Be Possible After Procedure?
Women are still capable of having children after the procedure. However, the results of the procedure will be affected and the mother’s abdominal section will once again suffer from excessive weight added during pregnancy. Dr. Grigoryants recommends that patients hold off on surgery until the they are certain that they will no longer have anymore children, otherwise the results will be compromised.
Are Results Long Lasting?
After surgery, the patient will initially feel sore, swollen and experience some bruising. These effects will subside and patients will notice that their abdomen is firmer and flatter as they expected. They will feel more comfortable in clothing and the results can be long lasting by implementing a healthy lifestyle. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, unless the patient gains or loses a significant amount of weight or becomes pregnant, the abdomen should remain firmer and flatter for many years. Should the patient see more effects due to aging and gravity, their body contour can be restored again.
Dr. Grigoryants wants his patients to make the smart choice and visit his office in Los Angeles to get the answers they seek in regards to body contouring. Men and women no longer have to struggle to in the battle of the bulge. Trim the fat with a tummy tuck and get that sexy shape you deserve!

Lipoabdominoplasty is a recently popularized procedure in the United States as more and more plastic surgeons are starging to perform this procedure. Lipoabdominoplasty allows to achieve better abdominal contouring as compared to a conventional tummy tuck. Patients with mid and upper abdominal fat excess frequently had to undergo a second liposuction procedure to remove fat from those areas. Lipoabdominoplasty allows to remove fat excess in the mid and upper abdominal areas in one stage. Safety and recovery following lipoabdominoplasty appears to be faster than following a conventional tummy tuck.

A mommy makeover has been frequently mentioned in the media. Hence, many mothers present to plastic surgeons asking for this procedure. A mommy makeover is more of a marketing rather a technical term. Following pregnancies many women experience changes in the shape of their body and face. A mommy makeover includes a set of plastic surgery procedures that would restore or improve the shape of the woman’s face and body after childbearing.
There is not a specific set of procedures. More commonly women are bothered by stretched abdominal skin and weak abdominal muscles, sagging breasts with dimished volume, fat excess in various areas. Therefore, a common combination of a mommy makeover procedures are a tummy tuck, liposuction of abdomen and flanks, and breast augmentation. Women who developed breast sagging would benefit from a breast lift in addition to breast enlargment using breast implants. These procedures can also be combined with a tummy tuck. In some women breasts may stay large and heavy and these women request a breast reduction.
Another common set of procedures is facial plastic surgery and body contouring. Commonly mothers in this group undergo such procedures as rhinoplasty combined with a breast augmentation or a tummy tuck. Rhinoplasty is nose surgery to reshape the nose, also referred to as a nose job . Many women who are bothered by protruding ears had requested to undergo ear surgery or otoplasty . This procedure is also called ear pinning .

An important aspect of having a successful outcome following plastic surgery is preoperative preparation. As part of a preoperative visit, a surgeon will discuss instructions as to what to do and not to do before surgery.
Thirty days before surgery Depending on the patient’s age and presence of medical problems, some patients may need to undergo a preoperative medical clearance which is performed by the patient’s primary care physician or cardiologist. It is important not to smoke before surgery and during the healing period after surgery. For Los Angeles Facelift, tummy tuck, and other plastic surgery procedures, smoking decelerates the healing and increases the risk of complications. There is no clear evidence as to how long the patient should not smoke prior to surgery. However, many physicians recommend avoiding smoking for at least a month prior to surgery.
Two to three weeks before surgery The surgeon will review patient’s medications and instruct which medication should be continued and stopped. Blood thinners such as aspirin, plavix, coumadin, ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) medications would need to be stopped at least 10-14 days before surgery. In most patients, medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems can be continued. Many dietary and herbal supplement need to be stopped 2-3 weeks prior to surgery as they may increase bleeding and bruising. Some these common supplements include Ginkgo, Ginseng, Garlic, Vitamin E, Fish oil (Omega 3 Fatty acids). Alcohol should also be avoided at least 2 weeks prior to surgery as it may also increase bleeding. Many weight loss medications may interfere with anesthesia and should also be stopped 2 weeks prior to surgery. Birth control pills may increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in legs) especially in longer operations such as Los Angeles tummy tuck, large volume liposuction, and other Los Angeles body contouring procedures. Many Los Angeles Plastic surgeons may recommend stopping births control pills two weeks prior to surgery. For shorter procedures such as Los Angeles rhinoplasty or breast augmentation, birth control pills can be continued.
Day before surgery The day before surgery, the patient should review all preoperative and postoperative instruction sheets, including the directions to the hospital/surgical facility and the time of arrival. For same day surgery, the patient needs to have an adult person take the patient home and have someone take care of the patient at home during the initial postoperative period. Eight hour prior to surgery, the patient needs to stop eating or drinking. The morning of surgery, the patient can brush his/her teeth and take a shower while avoiding using body lotions or deodorants.
