Los Angeles Tummy Tuck Surgeon Specialist

As a Los Angeles tummy tuck surgeon, Dr Grigoryants offers this procedure to  remove skin excess and fat from the abdominal area.  Dr. Grigoryants is a board certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Grigoryants performs the new or advanced procedure called lipoabdominoplasty. This procedure combines liposuction and advanced tummy tuck techniques allowing to achieve much better results than the conventional tummy tuck in many patients. Tummy tuck is a commonly performed procedure in Los Angeles. Few Los Angeles plastic surgeons offer the new/advanced tummy tuck procedure. It is important  for a person expecting to undergo this procedure to select a surgeon who performs a large number of tummy tucks.  You should be able to view before and after photographs of patients who underwent this procedure paying attention to the postoperative contour of the abdomen and waist area and whether or not the patient's scar can be hidden behind underwear.  Tummy tuck is one the most commonly performed procedures by Dr. Grigoryants. He places the resulting scar such that it can be easily hidden by the thinnest underwear.  Dr. Grigoryants frequently performs liposuction of the flanks when performing a tummy tuck in order to improve the definition of the waist area.  You can view photographs of  Los Angeles tummy tuck patients of Dr. Grigoryants below on this page.  To provide you with the safest possible experience, Dr. Grigoryants performs most of his surgeries in the hospital.   Patients that travel from far away or those who undergo several combined procedures at the same time have an option of staying overnight in the hospital. Dr. Grigoryants published his experience with lipoabdominoplasty in the reputable Aesthetic Surgery Journal (January, 2013).

Who would benefit from tummy tuck?

Patients  with stretched abdominal skin and excess fat. Many of these patients  state that they tried exercising  and dieting  with no improvement in the  appearance of the abdomen.

Patients who after  losing  weight have a significant amount of loose skin that  does not   shrink.

Women after pregnancy with excess fat in the abdominal area and  stretched / protruding abdomen which does not improve with exercises.

Patients with stretch marks in the lower abdomen with loose skin.

How is tummy tuck performed?

In addition to sagging abdominal skin, in some people in the abdomen may be protruding due to stretched abdominal wall muscles. In these patients, in addition to removing excess skin and fat, a tummy tuck surgeon will tighten the abdominal wall (muscles and fascia). This results in a flatter appearing abdomen with a better defined waist.

The tummy tuck specialist (surgeon) would typically place the incision in the lower abdomen so that it is hidden within you underwear.  The length of the incision depends on

the amount of skin and fat that needs to be removed.   In some patients, mini-abdominoplasty (mini-tummy tuck)  can be done using a shorter incision.  During your consultation, we evaluate the amount of skin and fat access to be removed. We will the draw the location and likely length of the incision on you or on your pictures (as you prefer). Some patients with fat excess but good skin quality and not a lot of skin excess can  benefit from liposuction alone.

During surgery, the abdominal skin is elevated and pulled down. Skin excess is then removed. The abdominal muscles and fascia are tightened if they are weak and stretched.

What is recovery like after abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)?

Most patients go home after abdominoplasty.  However,  some patients may stay in   the

hospital overnight.  You will have small drainage tubes placed under the skin   to prevent
fluid collections under the skin.  Your tummy tuck surgeon will removed these tubes will be
removed  once their  output decreases (usually within 4-7 days).

You will be able to walk the same day. We will ask you to  wear an abdominal  binder for

support   for several weeks. Most tummy tuck surgeons will use

absorbable sutures that do  not need to be removed. You will notice results immediately.
Over the next couple of  months the swelling  will resolve.  You  may start lifting heavier
objects after 6-8 weeks.

Dr. Grigoryants is now performing a new/advanced tummy tuck procedure which allows to achieve a flatter abdominal shape and a better defined waist. This procedure is also safer than the traditional tummy tuck procedure. The healing process is also more simplified following this procedure.   The advantage of lipoabdominoplasty has been documented in a number of studies and we see it in our practice as well. The advantages include: better ability to flatten the abdomen, more fat removal from abdominal area, better perfusion of flap and therefore better healing. We incorporate the technique called progressive flap suturing which allows us to remove drains faster (as early as 2-5) after surgery and reduced the incidence of postoperative seroma (fluid accumulation) to nearly zero percent.

Dr. Grigoryants, a Los Angeles Tummy tuck specialist will perform a thorough examination and will advise whether you would benefit from lipoabdominoplasty or a conventional tummy tuck procedure. In many patients liposuction of the pubis may need to be performed in addition to liposuction of the abdomen to achieve a flatter contour. Most Los Angeles tummy tuck patients request to have the incision placed as low as possible. Dr. Grigoryants will discuss placement of the incision with you at length. One of the goals of abdominoplasty is to have the incision placed where it can be covered even with thin underwear.
